Never sentimental, it is emotionally stirring from sublime happiness to terrible despair.

If you want a deep electronic music experience (and don't mind the 1980s style arrangement), then grab this soundtrack while it's still available.

An overlooked gem... And has been hard to find for many years!

The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards, for Best Actress (Pauline Collins) and Best Song ('The Girl Who Used To Be Me'), but the film failed to win an Oscar in either category.

The name of the exotic Greek locale in Mykonos made famous by this movie is Agios Ioannis Beach situated at Agios Ioannis Bay. The location has been nick-named the "Shirley Valentine Beach".

Apart from adapting his own stage play for this movie adaptation, playwright Willy Russell also worked as a music composer on the film.
