4 Schweppes Mixer Crates, Iconic 45rpm Modular Storage. Made from 1960ish on by Burscough Super Wood Products, Ormskirk. Each crate is hotprinted with their logo and the date of manufacture month/year. These were supplied to Schweppes to transport their small bottled mixer range. In the 1960's the crate deposit (printed at manufacture) was 3/- but so many crates were being lost this was soon increased to 6/- by stapling an aluminium disc over the original amount. A substantial amount at the time. The crates were being appropriated primarily by mobile disco operators and vinyl collectors because they make ideal storage for 45rpm records. Each crate holds about 140 discs, is easy to carry as it has handles and they are stackable on their sides. These crates are part of my record storage system, have deliberately left the stapled on charge update discs as they are an integral part of "the image" to be as core as possible. As are the internal bottle ringmarks and even the remains of the paper liners. These crates are datemarked 6-60, 3-68, 6-76 and 12-?. Last year date obscured by deposit update disc. The 6-60 crate has a rare plastic "33p per doz +VAT bottle deposit" plastic disc, obviously added after decimalisation.
