5th BALL GANG: Good Times (IBC #4B058-23697 Belgium 1977)

One of the most mature rock bands coming from Belgium in the mid 70's. Just amazing musical
very rich music with its pretention very hidden, but present Rock with very smart guitar solos,
sometimes funky...sometimes the musical influence of Carlos Santana is very audible...The most
impressing on the album are the difficult sometimes smooth played intermezzos on saxophone:
great...and gives a "cool jazzy" touch (Roland Robay-Frans Maas) The 'cast ' on his album is
very big.(9)...so I wonder if this kind of music can be played by a minimal of band members
without losing their finest moments. Also worth to mention is the importance of percussion
(Latin style). Hugo Spencer was the drivin' force of this band released on ex-Dwarf :
IBC records...Hugo does a difficult thing here....merging old rock standards with jazz brass,
James Brown funk , David Crosby voices and Carlos Santana guitar.
Very interesting and smooth on vinyl.....but I wonder if this music can be brought live with
only a few musicians? 5th Ball Gang stands amongst the finest early 70's non commercial
roots-blues-funk bands in my country. If you like these: Irish Coffee , Karel Bogard ,
Doctor Downtrip , Jenghiz Khan , Burning Plague , Kleptomania.....you have to check this
Antwerp based opponent !

VG+ = overall wear, but no skips of serious defects, more noisy sound during quiet passages…
        sleeve is well worn, usually with considerable ring wear.
VG = plays a lot, heavy wear on record and cover…guarantee does not apply to vg- or worse
        condition records.
