Description
6 x 1950s 10 inch jazz albums
Including: Sydney Bechet, Coleman Hawkins, Gigi Gryce, Clifford Brown
This interesting group of jazz albums was in a box of old records that I bought at a local auction saleroom to get a couple of rare R&B L.P.s for my own collection. Most of the other records in the lot were of no real interest to anyone but I really couldn’t bear to take this esoteric little collection to the tip. They must surely be of interest to someone. They date from the days when sophisticated jazz of this kind was still a pretty underground taste in the UK. They must have been bought originally by a real afficienado I think – especially as one is a French import.
I don’t have space to describe the condition of each record individually here but in fact, they are all really very good. If you would like more details about any particular one, please contact me. The sleeves are all complete but two or three are a rather tatty and/or grubby. One has a lot of foxing to the back. A couple of the records are missing their inner sleeves. On the whole though, this is a very nice collection – and includes some pretty uncommon records, I imagine. The collection consists of:
Sydney Bechet
Sydney Bechet with André Rewliotty and his Orchestra Vogue (UK)
Sydney Bechet
Sydney Bechet et ses Vogue jazzmen Wing (French)
Sydney Bechet
Sydney Bechet at Storyville Vogue (UK)
Gigi Gryce – Clifford Brown Sextet
Jazz Time Paris Vol. 2 Vogue (UK)
Al Fairweather and his Band
Fairweather Friends Pye Nixa
Sir Charles Thompson
Sir Charles Thompson and his band starring Coleman Hawkins Vanguard
Postage and packing within the UK will be 4.00. Postage anywhere else in the world will be £10.00.
I hope this description has given you enough to go on but should you require any further information, or more images, please do e-mail. I am happy to post to anywhere in the world. There is no reserve beyond the minimum bid. Thanks for your interest in this auction and good luck if you decide to bid.
Please note:
I will not respond to requests to close the auction early regardless of the value of the offer made, nor will I respond to requests to change the listing to “Buy It Now” for the benefit of an individual buyer. To do either of these things is contrary to both the principle and spirit of an auction – and unfair to other eBayers.
