Three mid-60s releases have made Sharon Soul a bot of a mini legend on the Northern Soul scene, and this one even surfaced as a UK single in April 1965, thanks to the well-trained ears of the team at Stateside. It was with some surprise when I saw the photograph, because there isn't even a hint of 'blue-eyedness' in her sweet 'teen soprano' vocal style. Her two Coral 45s came out after the one on offer here, with the vibe-laden "His Love Is Amazing" being my particular favourite.

Wild Deuce was formed by the successful Detroit producer Don Davis in 1964. It lasted for about a year, and released four known singles -  the existence of a fifth (#1002) has yet to be determined. Of the four that did come out, the one that first springs to mind is Emanuel Lasky's "Lucky To Be Loved (By You)". It was initially slated for release on Thelma (#103), early in 1964, but these varieties never materialized, and it eventually appeared on Wild Deuce (#1003). The label was given a new red and white design for the occasion, with the four suits of playing cards depicted at the top. Sharon Soul's 45 can also be found with the more colourful of the two designs, and although these are considered to be the more desirable (and certainly a lot easier to photocopy or scan), they are actually rapid represses, put out shortly after the unimaginative blue variety that preceded it.

Incidentally, Deena Johnson's version of "The Breaking Point" was the final release on Wild Deuce (#1004). It's all down to individual taste of course, but Brad Lundy's male handling takes some beating. My copy of Brad's version came from the second-hand shop I often refer to (Rosina Ward's), and is in very worn condition - it will therefore be appearing as a 99p cheapie on these pages, some time in the future. For those who don't know, Deena Johnson was the pseudonym used by Jo Armstead on some of her early recordings.

Both sides of this single were written by Sharon herself - one in association with the arranger, Jesse Herring, Jr.  They have full youtube sound postings for the uninitiated (not taken from my copy).

The vinyl on the A-side has a very light scuff, which doesn't affect the play condition at all. The vinyl on the B-side has a few tiny "spiders webs" only, and both sides play almost like new.

Both labels are immaculate.

There are no stickers/sticker marks, and no writing.

This record has been played on both sides to verify condition, but there's a full money-back guarantee on all my sales, and I'll refund anyone who isn't totally captivated.
