RICHARD AND THE YOUNG LIONS

OPEN UP YOUR DOOR
ONCE UPON YOUR SMILE

Philips 40381

GRADE: VG++

DESCRIPTION: Richard and the Young Lions have been heralded by many as one of the pioneering, innovative groups of "psychedelic" or "garage" rock and roll of the mid '60s. To put their story in a nutshell, they originated as the Original Kounts and started playing the great British Invasion songs and grew their hair out, becoming the first longhair group in Newark, New Jersey. On one occasion, Norm Cohan, Marc Lees & Richard Tepp (the lead singer) were hanging out in the Indian Pizzeria singing along with the jukebox when two guys in the restaurant struck up a conversation with them. As luck would have it, those two guys just happened to be hit songwriters Ray Bloodworth and Larry Brown of Bob Crewe Productions (the management group of Mitch Rider and of the Four Seasons, among others). The two guys liked them and they, along with several other members of the group, became managed by the Bob Crewe conglomerate. Also about this time, Bob Crewe, seeing Richard with his long hair, said that he was reminded of King Richard the Lionhearted, and, because they were all very young, Crewe came up with a new name for the band: Richard and the Young Lions. Their biggest hit, Open Up Your Door, the first recording to use an African Hair Drum and fuzz bass, was a chart topper in many great rock and roll markets, like Detroit, Cleveland, Seattle, and Vancouver, etc. In fact, that record went Top 5 in every market it entered. Richard and the Young Lions is an outstanding, but little remembered garage psych rock group from 1966--the time acid rock hit the scene. If you want to hear some absolutely fantastic psych rock, this is the record you're looking for! It's not easy to find any more, and this beautiful copy should definitely be on your record shelf if you're a fan of '60s rock. I can't say enough about both sides of the record--they are both killer songs. Buy it now!

CONDITION: The record looks and plays like new except for some extremely light scuffs. Still in it?s original Philips factory sleeve! Super disk!

Failure to comply with or answer seller's e-mails will result in negative feedback and notification of non-paying bidder to mediation. Winning bidder pays all shipping/handling charges. I pack very carefully, but I DO NOT GUARANTEE LOSS OR DAMAGE IF PACKAGE IS UNINSURED AND I WILL NOT REFUND MONEY TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAS LOST OR DAMAGED UNINSURED MERCHANDISE (unless the damage can be proved to be my, the seller's fault). I do not rip off customers by tacking on unnecessary charges to the shipping costs. Shipping I ship to every country in the world. In the U.S.: I ship 45s by USPS 1st class shipping. However, if requested, I will ship 45s via priority mail. I require that 78s be shipped by USPS priority mail; however, there are cases where a buyer prefers some other type of shipping, i.e., media rate, and I will oblige with the one requirement that he/she purchase insurance. I ship twice a week--more frequently depending on the volume of sales for that week. Refunds & Returns Refunds are given if buyer feels my description is misleading. If a record is discovered to be, for instance, a second pressing instead of a first as advertised, I will refund the money. If I have graded a record higher than it actually is, that is reason for a refund. I will not refund payment if the buyer has found another record at a lower price than the one I sold him/her; or if the buyer changes his/her mind for about buying the record for no good reason. Buyer has 7 days after record has been shipped to request a refund. Items should be returned in the packing carton and material they were shipped in.
