RARE...hard to find (and in collector circles very expensive to buy) ORIGINAL 1966 German first pressing of a long time top rated and killer beatrock album -- if you like the raw but melodic side of mid 60's KINKS or tuneful 60's USA teen angst garage punk...you don't want to miss this gem....
The Phantoms were one of the best of a large number of early to mid-'60s rock & roll bands from central and northern Europe. Their first performance as a trio in Belgium, entertaining a rowdy beer-drinking audience using an amplifier cannibalized from an old radio, with a total power output of about six watts. A brace of follow-up singles appeared, of which the most successful was the moody killer "Tormented." Their only album released in 1966 was comprised of strong beatrocker laced r&b cookers and moody melodic grooves. There are plenty of highlights throughout both sides. topped by one of the most outrageous scream-punk-fuzz nugget in their take on 'Roadrunner' which is so over the top it was an easy choice for an early "Pebbels" garage comp entry. The group was booked on a tour of England, which marked the high point of their international career. With a mid 60's Beatles edge in their tunes, they were in the league with fellow beatrock bands of the era such as The Jay Jays, early Motions, Outsiders, Kinks, and to a lesser extent early Pretty Things... This, their "rare" 1966 only album is definitely one to check out...it's all reverb/tremelo guitar, bass, drums and British sounding English vocals...

CONDITION: The cover is laminated and surprisingly clean for a 44 year old teen scene rarity...there's a light little spider crease at top right (not at all bad, you don't even see it underneath the outer plastic cover) ...no split seams, no writing...upper level collectible
The vinyl is all glossy both sides having no more than little scuff hairlines, all soft and superficial, so play grade is wonderfully EXcellent from start to finish...visually VG+(+) and there is a small name on one side of label. all in all one to own for mid 60's fans...
