Description

.PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +22,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.

IRON BUTTERFLY hailed from the Lost Angeles rock (psychedelic) scene being more of a local band than most of the groups hanging out in LA were, hoping to be noticed. The LA scene at the time also had The Doors, Love, Spirit, The Byrds, The Standells, Electric Prunes, and quite a few others, being a major scene and most of the San Francisco scene bands came down to record their albums in Los Angeles (interestingly enough, SF did not have recording studios in the 60’s) and if the LA Sunset strip did not catch public imagination like the Haight Ashbury scene, and psychedelic rock was just as vivid as can be attested by the groups mentioned above. Interestingly enough also, Los Angeles was also a very strong garage-rock scene (check out the NUGGETS box-set for fact), and some of those groups lasted, becoming more adventurous and heavier, also psychedelic. In this regard, one can actually make a link between garage-rock and proto- progressive rock;  Iron Butterfly being one of those bands became famous in this transformation. Their first album "HEAVY" is a combination of hard-rock & psychedelic mixes within tight self penned tracks forming a cohesive formidable sound. IRON BUTTERFLY had ambitions high enough to make popular rock styles change into the impact heavy edges known today.
Deliberately choosing an intriguing name as Iron Butterfly, making their point more clearly, they call this first album Heavy and they received plenty of praise for their groundbreaking (hard psych) approach. The album remains quite impressive, adorned by striking artwork, to the listeners imagination back then, and had an impact nationally staying on the Billboard charts for 50 weeks = even greater as the album contained no obvious hits, but remains a very even collection of great underground FM worthy songs.
Lead by heavy handed organist Doug Ingle, with a psych sound reminding of  HP Lovecraft... Opener "Possession" is one of those signature tracks (HP Lovecraft sound) with instantly recognizable Ingle-played organ.
Follow-up "Unconscious Power" upbeat with a solid bass line. The next few tracks would nicely fit nicely on a "Nuggets" compilation: with influences from The Seeds, The Electric Prunes, Chocolate Watchband, Thirteenth Floor Elevators,,, etc
The second side has the even better Looking For The Sun sliding into the killer-rated Fields Of Sun. Further onward "Stamped Ideas" yet another highlight featuring fuzz guitar and Ingle organ perfection. Particularly enjoyable is the closing Iron Butterfly Theme.
All together this is a classic West Coast timeless album, one that may have been missed by otherwise appreciative fans. First pressings on the tri-colored Atco label are VERY difficult to find...here, a purple, plum, tan Atco label pressed 58 years ago (1968) - in NICE shape.
