I AM CALLING THIS ALBUM VG MEDIA AND VG COVER. I just feel better dropping it down a grade. It sounds good. little audio noise but I am using a low output mc cartridge. I feel better about it instead the VG+. I just don't want someone upset with their purchase.
Pre‑owned records in our shop are graded VG/ VG+ or better. We know every collector has their own interpretation of the Goldmine grading scale, so we prefer to under‑grade rather than over‑promise. Our goal is to give you the best possible quality for a used record.
Every album is ultrasonic cleaned and play‑tested if needed. Outer jackets may show normal wear, and we always note any significant flaws in the description. Some records may have light scuffs that do not affect playback, and we make sure to mention anything unusual.
A VG+ record shows signs of being played and handled by someone who took good care of it. Any imperfections are cosmetic and do not affect the sound. In theory, a VG+ record should play the same as a Near Mint copy. You may see light scuffs, faint scratches, or a slight warp that doesn?t affect playback. Sleeves may have minor wear, small corner dings, or a light seam split. Overall, a VG+ record plays cleanly and would be Near Mint if not for minor visual wear.
Very Good (VG)
Many of the imperfections found on a VG+ record are more obvious on a VG record. That said, VG records — which usually sell for no more than 25 percent of a NM record — are among the biggest bargains in record collecting, because most of the “big money” goes for more perfect copies. For many listeners, a VG record or sleeve will be worth the money.
VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise.
One thing we?ve learned over the years is that even brand?new records can have pops, clicks, or surface noise, especially in quiet passages, intros, and fades. Ultrasonic cleaning helps reduce this, but depending on your audio system, some of these sounds may be more noticeable than on others.
We?re not here to sell junk. We?ve been doing this a long time, and we know that some pressings ? even straight out of the shrink ? aren?t perfect. Experienced collectors already know this, and we want newer collectors to understand it as well. Our goal is transparency, honesty, and helping you build a collection you?ll enjoy.
