DESCRIPTION:
Here is a group of 7 12" music rehearsal discs (not actual soundtrack discs) for the 1935 feature METROPLITAN, the first production of the newly formed 20th Century Fox studio. It was a showcase for Metropolitan Opera baritone Lawrence Tibbett and also starred Virginia Bruce and Alice Brady. Much like Vitaphone film soundtrack discs, these are on labels with play count boxes and play from inside out at 33 1/3 with a needle start arrow. Clear sound with full fidelity. Director announces a production # at beginning. On Faust Trio disc, in exasperation he first states "cut, you're dragging again", then later "it's no good...Teddy, will you do me a favor and kill the system...this is very nerve racking." Some are pressed on heavier shellac than others and a few are on blue shellac. The heavier shellac discs have lam cracks that tic, the worst being 1349 which has a bad circular crack extending into the last 6 grooves which will not allow tracking at that point. Pressed by Columbia on United Artists Corporation label stock. Two typical discs are shown in pics.
