158. ORIGINAL DIXIELAND JASS (JAZZ) BAND
VICTOR 18255 FROM 1917 ~ FIRST ISSUED JAZZ 78!

BACKGROUND: For your consideration is this important, interesting, and very old jazz 78 rpm record. I got this record many years ago at a farm/estate auction. I kept it with an old phonograph that I had for display only; I never played this record. Now that I am downsizing, I would like to pass it along to someone who might enjoy it.
DESCRIPTION: This record is 10 inches in diameter, has one selection per side, and plays at 78 rpm. It has the black-and-gold "batwing" Victor records label. Research suggests that this record, kept in the Victor catalog for some time, is a first issue; note the misspelling on "Jass". On Victor 18255A (take 3) there is "Dixie Jass Band One-Step". On the other side, 18255B (take 1) is "Livery Stable Blues". Both are originals by the band and both are instrumentals.
CONDITION: This item is graded visually and would grade VG (very good). There are light scratches and scuffs on the surface of this recording, on both sides. Both sides also have some grayness in the grooves. There is some label wear/fading on both sides, mostly around the center spindle hole.
Condition issues aside, this item is still in good shape for its age. There are no visual cracks, edge or center chips, deep scratches, label tears, heat or water damage. This is an item that will make a great addition to your jazz record library!
