Description
Here's a unique 8" 78rpm direct recording made in the studio of the Platt Music Company in downtown Los Angeles around 1931. This was one of a cache of similar aluminum discs which turned up recently in Southern California, all by a male vocal group who sound exactly like the Biltmore Trio. While most sides - including these - are obscure numbers that they must have been trying out, one record is a very lowbrow satire of a radio broadcast by Earl Burtnett's Biltmore Hotel Orchestra, featuring Burtnett announcing with the trio and Jesse Kirkpatrick singing: the smoking gun for positive identification of this group of records. The disc you are bidding on contains a fairly clear recording of a number I don't recognize, featuring the Trio with guitar and piano accompaniment; Paul Gibbons takes the lead part. The other side is unintelligible with a 4.0 ET stylus but may just need a wider stylus to play properly. This grades around V+.
