This record grades about E condition . This is one of a few records I said I'd never sell..Louis Armstrong's first recording session.This copy was advertised in a 1945 issue of Record Changer Magazine and was listed as new store stock by Will Roy Hearne,creator of the first record price guide. In the late 1970s,while rae record daydreaming and perusing some old issues of RC,I saw the display ad and said to myself."I wonder if he's still around".. Well I called Los Angeles information and lo and behold,got a good phone number and 30+ years after the fact was speaking to Will Roy himself..He said he had 2 left out of a handful of Olivers that were offered..So I told him.. HOLD THOSE RECORDS..and caught a plane out to LA the next day ..Had dinner with he and his wife and viewed his garage ful of records. Well I spent a couple grand that night and came back to St. Louis with my treasures..carefully guarding them on my lap for protection.AND I've had them ever since....Maybe played once since 1977....Now on close inspection they aren't absolutely perfect but they do look better than any others I've seen..Wll Roy offered me his garage full a few years later for $25,000, but I had just gotten married,had a child on the way and was up to my ears in bills and I had to pass. A couple other investors bought the stuff I believe and sold it in VJM over the next few years and Will Roy and his wife were attacked and beaten in their home in a robbery attempt and moved to a retirement home and subsequently passed away shortly thereafter..Fast forward to present time and here we are.
Good luck on a very nice piece of recording history from 85 years ago.
These are my grades ,E-,VG++,VG+,VG,VG-,G+......Highest to lowest for 78s.I only use E or E+ when the record looks new and unplayed or perfect.E- or indeed VG++ are very close to perfect and will be more than satisfactory to discerning collectors.
All 78s will be packed between 4 cardboard squares and boxed professionally with insulation to guarantee safe delivery.
Changes to eBay store pricing only: Please note...Ebay mandated shipping cuts due to some uninformed decision grouping all "media" items as one.."New CDs are the same as old 78s for the purpose of cutting shipping charges by sellers". This is unfair and created a lot of problems for sellers such as myself...eBAY automatically is ending or has ended all the thousands of items I had in my ebay store for the last few years,to force me to "change/reduce " the shipping charge. We all know I cannot ship priority well boxed and packed with saftey cardbords and peanuts for $4.00 which is their mandate (confused with a single CD or DVD), so I am arbitrarily adding a few dollars to the list price of store items as I relist these old items to compensate for the cut in shipping forced upon me..The net cost on some older single sales will be the same..(minus $4.00 on shipping...plus $4.00 on product)..On multiple sales I will still consolidate shipping charges.....and adjust your totals if necessary...THIS ONLY APPLIES TO old store listings...All New items listed in the eBay store will be priced differently for shipping and if you wait for my invoice first, I'll change the rate to $8.00 priority,and $5.00 media when I send out the invoice...IF you pay BEFORE getting my invoice, there will be no adjustments made.Sorry for the confusion, but it's another case of eBay meddling where they don't need to.
IMPORTANT: Disregard shipping charges in listing.They are due to eBay's new calculated rates which I cannot control...Do not pay until you receive an invoice.You will be invoiced $8.00 for priority and $5.00 for media for single items in the US...Combined shipping will be as it has been.
Some changes in domestic shipping costs due to eBay's new system have been posted These are superceded by the above statement in RED..
