RAGTIME FOR BADGERS

A change from our usual listings.

Here are some VERY EARLY Ragtime/Two-Step and similar musical items on some rare original 78s.

They were DANCE PARTY records for pre WW1 ravers,

so some are a bit scruffy. Please check description.

Here we have TWO (yes! Two!) original 10” single-sided 78rpm RAGTIME records by GOTTLIEB’S ORCHESTRA.

 

HERE’S WHAT YOU GET:

1.  “Grizzly Bear Rag” HMV single-sided GC826, recorded in London in October 1911.

The disc is very clean and has a very few light sleeve-marks which do not affect play and do not matter a hill o’ beans (see photo).

It plays very well indeed.

Let’s call it what the VJM Record Grading System describes as E- or maybe even an E.

It is as rare as heck.

 

2. “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” HMV single-sided GC830, recorded in London in October 1911 (same session as above). This disc plays very nicely. It has only a few very light sleeve-smudges (see photo) and ONE very light inch-and-a-bit grit-in-the-sleeve mark which does not sound..

Let’s call it what the VJM Record Grading System describes as an E- or maybe even an E.

In addition, it is as rare as heck..

 

Desider Gottlieb led a “society” band at various posh London Hotels, and was involved with recordings by “The Mayfair Orchestra”. (See elsewhere in our listings).

He played what the bright young things wanted to hear in 1911, and this was it!
