Description
We have 8 "record yourself" discs from 1942 & 1944 recorded by servicemen. 6 discs are "Through the Courtesy of Pepsi-Cola" per the mailing envelopes-only 5 Pepsi Envelopes, the 6th & 7th envelopes say "Chicago Service Men Centers". The 6 Pepsi discs have advertising on both sides- front is a letter "Dear Friend; Just this minute completed recording the voice of your man in the service. You will be happy to know that he is thinking of you and greatly enjoyed sending you this personal message. It gives us great pleasure to send you this record with our compliments. Cordially, Pepsi-Cola". And at the bottom it says "Records by the Recordisc Corp. 395 Broadway, N.Y.C. 13, N.Y.". The reverse of the record has 3 pictures of Pepsi-Cola Centers for Service Men and Women. One in Times Square, N.Y.; one is San Francisco; and the last in Washington, D.C.. "Free Shaves, Free Showers, Free Checking". "Lounge, Reading and Writing Facilities, Low Cost Sandwich Bar Free Pepsi-Cola". "A Central Meeting Place to Leave and Receive Messages". Records surfaces have yellowed & creased, but all are playable- 2 with a few skips. All Pepsi records recorded in 1944 & the young men are taking about getting out of service soon and coming home. And putting in plugs for 5 cent Pepsi. The final 2 discs are each different. There is a "Talk-A-Record-Home" recorded by Paul Labor, Sept 2, 1942 talking & singing his original song "There's Nobody Else But You"- patriotic red/white/blue record with stars & stripes. Plays well, but has a few chips & has yellowed. Last record is "Howard Recording Disc". Written on it is "Hello Folks by Leo, 11-17-42. Disc is a little warped & scratchy. Plays but hard to understand. Sounds like a foreign language and home-made music.
I'm sure these would be a different collectable for the Pepsi collector in your family.
