Description
An excellent and impeccable example of the first UK cassette release from 1969 to end of 1971, of "Abbey Road" by The Beatles. Released at the same time as the vinyl LP album in late 1969.
Distinguished by album artwork front cover inlay, and the rear-of-sleeve album artwork on the foldover, the circular 1 &7/8 ips mark on the spine (along with the catalogue number), the elementary newspaper-like black print, this first release design was produced from 1969 until the end of 1971, when the different "all gold" designs for the REissues were introduced in January 1972. These early first release Beatles cassette albums were essentially marketing experimental releases, at a time when EMI were warily testing the cassette market when the public had not been made fully aware of, or tried the new format. (EMI had their enormous Beatles vinyl LP sales at stake.)
There is very minor bubbling to the lime green paper labels, but this does not detract from the overall excellent condition. See photos. There are no pen marks or scuffing/tearing of the inlay. It would appear to have hardly been played at all. I have run it through my Sony Music Centre and it plays perfectly. Complete with its original black plastic and clear Norelco case.
Note there is no EMI or Parlophone logo on the paper label. No Abbey Road cassettes had these. The Beatles had started their own Apple Company and a dispute arose with EMI/Parlophone over the use of an appropriate logo.
Note also that there is "Copyright Control" printed on Side One and "Northern Songs" on Side 2 paper labels, which indicates the item was one of the very early cassettes in the first release run - possibly late 1969 - the very time the LP vinyl album was first released. Later cassettes in the first UK release run omitted these notations. The photos appear as yellow labels, but they are, in fact, lime green.
