AEROSMITH 1978 Live! Bootleg 2LP with Very Rare Alternate Cover!
Aerosmith - Live! Bootleg (Columbia)
PC2 35564. Very rare 1978 original 2LP set with alternate gatefold cover. While this LP includes the original custom inner sleeves and red labels with orange "Columbia" perimeter print, the cover is what makes it unique.
As the photographs clearly show, this is a very rare alternate cover. In fact, it's the only one we've ever seen before. Notice how on the "B" cover the "Aerosmith" logo has a kind of reverse negative effect, with a black background and transparent logo/text. The original cover has just the black logo and text. Furthermore, on the front cover one of the two instances of the word "Bootleg" is upside down and located at the bottom left corner of the cover. On a regular copy of the album, the word "Bootleg" appears twice at the bottom right corner of the cover. On the back side of the "B" cover there are several differences noticeable. The "Aerosmith - Live" logo appears at the top left edge instead of the bottom right edge. The word "Bootleg" appears at the bottom left corner (above the Columbia logo) instead of the top right corner. The track listing appears on the far right side instead of the far left side. The faux coffee stains appear on the left side instead of the right side of the cover. And, perhaps most importantly, this version of the album is a "top loader" meaning the mouth of the cover is on the top side instead of the traditional right side. Thus, the spine of the album is the bottom side instead of the left side.
Whether this alternate cover was a prototype, a promo, or simply a printing error, we have no idea. That said, it's certainly a unique and rare variation of an iconic album cover!
Note: This auction is for the alternate cover only (the "B" cover in the photos). The "A" cover (the regular version of this album) is not for sale, it has just been pictured in order to illustrate the differences between the two items.
Condition: Discs VG++, Cover VG+
Light abrasions along right edge of cover (mostly on the back). Light stain on the front at bottom.
