New York-born, Portland-based rapper and producer Aesop Rock has spent decades turning internal chaos into intricate order - however, this offering finds him sounding looser yet sharper and more at ease with disarray. Built around the refrain that gives the project its name, these twelve tracks trace the small absurdities of staying connected in fractured times - conversations with friends scattered across cities, the banal and the surreal merging into one. On 'The Cut' he unpacks burnout with bone-dry humour, then 'Full House Pinball' and 'Pay the Man' move with minimalist thudding that leaves space for his tangled syllables to breathe. The beats are leaner and more aerodynamic; the rhymes as dense and funny as ever. It's a travelogue of nowhere in particular and that's exactly the point.
