Description
A MINT (EX SHOP STOCK) COPY OF THIS ULTRA RARE KENYAN 78 ON THE PINK WHITE AND BLUE CMS LABEL !
STONIK AND KIPRONO (TWO GUITARS AND VOCAL)
ONGOLILI RELYON b/w EMET - NEBURGEI (Both sung in Kipsigis)
The Capitol Music Store was based in Nairobi and issued records from the late 50's and into the 70's. This is one of the first of a batch of 78s I have come across, and these 78s are exceedingly rare !!
I CAN FIND FEW OTHER REFERENCE TO THESE TWO KENYAN PERFORMERS EXCEPT THAT ONE TRACK BY THEM (SINDENYUN) WAS INCLUDED IN A WORLD MUSIC ON 78S COMPILATION BY JONATHAN WARD LAST YEAR.
THIS IS THE SECOND 78 I HAVE OFFERED HERE ON eBaY
I believe this 78 was actually pressed in the sixties and it is manufactured from a very hard vinyl rather than shellac.
More records (45's) can be found on the CMS label here http://www.kentanzavinyl.com/Site/CMS.html
THIS RECORD IS FROM THE CMS HB SERIES ISSUED ON A PINK AND BLUE LABEL RATHER THAN THE MORE TRADITIONAL YELLOW.
IT COMES IN A PRISTINE ORIGINAL CMS AFRICAN RECORDS COVER!
