Keïta Fodéba (1921-1969) is a poet, musician and political figure. He studied law
in Paris and, there, creates the 'Sud Jazz' orchestra. Back in Guinea, he creates
the 'Ballets africains' and becomes Minister for National Defense. He builds up the
Guinean armed forces and police. Accused of planning to overthrow Sékou Touré,
he is arrested, almost staved to death and finally executed in 1969 together with other
ministers and his political adversary Barry Diawadou. While the feeble men dug their
own graves for hours, Fodéba extended his hand to his adversary Diawadou, who
refused to take the hand. At this very moment the men were shot with machine guns.
