AFRO FUNK GRAIL! "Stars Of 82" (Witch "My Desire" "Movin' On") – LP HEAR!
Stars Of 82Label: SHED 1006 Format: Vinyl, LP Country: Zimbabwe Released: 1981
I normally wouldn't use the term "Grail" but this truly is a one-of-a-kind item and probably the only copy you will ever come across – a compilation of artists from Zambia and Zimbabwe recorded in the Shed Studios in Harare!
The Crown Jewels on this LP are two tracks by Witch – in fact the legendary Zamrock band! – who re-invented themselves in the early 80s and swapped their Garage Psych Rock for some cosmic flavoured Disco Funk with female vocals in the vein of maybe Chic or Sister Sledge. Both tracks were taken from their also incredibly rare album "Movin' On" which recently has been reissued (listen to the sound files).
Interestingly there are also two songs by a group called Dagger who upheld the Zamrock sound. Sadly they fell into oblivion like most of the artist on this sampler. Try browsing the internet – you won't find any information on this record except for one single post on a highly recommended blog called "afrobeat-music" – it is this very copy you'll find there (I provided it to the site and there should be a link where you can download the whole album).
As this record is insanely rare and completely unknown I had to set the opening bid accordingly!
