Description
Never seen original album AFTERGLOW in pristine condition. Still in shrink. Small drill hole in bottom right corner. Played maybe once or twice. A great copy of a really hard to find original. Not a copy or reissue. This is the original MTA label.
THE AFTERGLOW STORY:
Afterglow began in the very remote rural area of Dorris in Northern California as “The Medallions”. Band members at the time were Tony Tecumseh (guitar, vocals), Mike Moreno (bass), Gene Resler (lead vocals) and Larry Alexander (drums). There were no teen dance venues in the area, but they played weddings, pizza parlors, high school and college dances locally. Mike Moreno was married and left for a more stable job at the Dorris Lumber Mill. Mike’s replacement on (bass, vocals) was Ron George who had been playing in a band (unknown) with Roger Swanson at Siskiyou College. Roger was a drummer, but took up (keyboards) and could sing as well. Their music covered a number of popular bands (“Strawberry Alarmclock”, “The Byrds”, “The Beatles”), but they also wrote many of their own tunes. Tony especially wanted the band to have a certain uniqueness and quality. They expanded their tour area to Southern Oregon and other areas of Northern California. When they played at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California they found Bill Glenn who knew some folks in San Francisco. and introduced them to Leo De Gar Kulka and the "Golden State Recording" studio. Hank Levin was one of the producers and confessed that listening to the session tapes prompted him to rename the group “Afterglow”. The big venues (Fillmore and Avalon) never booked the band. They did their recording and went back to familiar territory near home. The band was extremely popular and shared the stage with “The Turtles”, “The Neighb’r hood Childr’n”, “The Beau Brummels” and others. The music flows between light pop to full blown psychedelia. Musically their album falls somewhere between "Country Joe" and a "British Invasion" sound. Nice three and four part harmonies, farfisa organ and special effects. But, the band never had any intention to make a full fledged career in music. Tony didn’t want to tour everywhere and left the band, followed shortly afterwards by Roger who became an accountant. Gene, Ron and Larry wound up at Chico State, but hired some vocalists and another keyboard player where they spent the next four years playing night clubs on the west coast and in Hawaii. The album was never promoted and the band didn’t see a penny.
