Seven years on from Reggae Now, the Aggrolites' 2019 comeback, Super Atomic is the LA blazers' newest follow-up, reflecting the explosive impact seven years of near-constant touring has had on their rhythmic chops. Jesse Wagner, Roger Rivas and the rest have been playing these duties for decades but more recently refined them in their shift from backroom studio to front-of-house performance, resulting surely over time in an incendiary tightness, more than audible here. The Aggrolites' kindling blend of early rocksteady, soul-reggae and LA garage has been overall pushed harder, from 'Till The Wheels Fall Off' to 'Duck Pon Pond' with Man Like Devin, as cooing ska meets crowd-whipping vocals, until the Bedford TK gives out.
