Description

So far the rarest record I will have had the privilege to list on ebay, here is the INCREDIBLY SCARCE MONO PRIVATE PRESSING of Agincourt's 'Fly Away' on Merlin HF3.

Recently, a copy of this was sold by a US seller and I hope s/he won't mind me gleaning some information about this record (NB. This is NOT the record he sold; this is a recently acquired warehouse find, and what a find it is!!!):

"Exceedingly rare privately-pressed LP (approximately 50 copies pressed c. 1970). I'm not going to attempt to over-hype this LP, because collectors know of its brilliance. I will say that it is incredible rare with only about 50 copies pressed making it a UK pop-psych rarity on the level of Complex, Forever Amber & Ithaca.

Peter Howell - acoustic & classical guitars, mandolin; piano & organ; recorder; percussion (later worked with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop) John Ferdinando - vocals & vocalizes; electric, acoustic & bass guitars; autoharp Lee Menelaus - vocals & backing vocals

The Agincourt record was recorded over a period of several months in a makeshift studio above Howell's parents' house, giving it a homemade quality, yet recorded surprisingly well. This record utilized the female vocals of Lee Menelaus, who had been discovered by Howell and Ferdinando not long before the recording began. During the period, Howell and Ferdinando apparently had an interest in bands such as Pink Floyd and Fairport Convention, so some influence can be heard, but the sound they captured is all their own. The members of Agincourt were also in Alice Through The Looking Glass, Tomorrow Come Some Day, Ithaca, and Friends."

CONDITION: BASED ON UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM:

DISC: EX. The very shiny disc plays extremely well with a little surface noise at the very beginning of each side, giving way to very quietly playing vinyl all the way through, with a little background noise now and again, not intrusive at all. There are some very light hairlines, but these are minor. The most visible are: side one, track 7, side two, tracks 1 and 2, but, as mentioned, these do not affect the superb audio! (playgraded on a Linn LP12, RB300 with new Ortofon 2m blue cartridge). Any flaws mentioned are minor gripes on what is a rare piece of vinyl in EXCELLENT CONDITION! Matrices HF-3 6532A, HF-3 6532B.

LABEL: Both sides: EX+, a little spindle edge wear, possibly a manufacturing flaw, and a few very minor spindle marks.

SLEEVE: VG+, a little edge creasing, minor ringwear visible on the back, and a bit of storage discolouration wear to the spine and top edge, but no tears or splits, generally very clean indeed! (also has original poly-lined inner sleeve).

INSERT: EX,very, very light crease at top edge, but no tears. SUPERB!

Bid with confidence; see my feedback for previous comments on grading and packing. I am extremely careful when packaging records. The disc is placed outside of cover and professional mailers with 2 card stiffeners are used to ensure safe delivery.

UK Special Delivery, fully insured, will be £8.50; most of Europe International Signed For/Airsure insured will be £15.00, rest of the world (inc. USA, Japan, China, South Korea) £25.00.
