Description
Rare acetate disc featuring an excerpt of Al Jolson's last performance in Korea from September 1950
Approximately 4 minutes on this 10 inch, black lacquer acetate coated aluminum disc. This disc sounded fast at 78rpm, played at 76rpm sounded much better. This disc was recorded by The American Broadcasting Company for reference purposes only and not available to the general public, very rare!
The disc begins with a radio announcer mentioning Jolson's Death then audio of Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall presenting The U. S. Medal Of Merit to Mrs. Al Jolson & Al Jolson's son. Then an audio excerpt of Al Jolson's last performance in Korea, beginning with "Swanee" in progress, some banter with the audience, then an abbreviated version of "April Showers". A few more seconds of George C. Marshall's presentation, then some closing words by the announcer
The Al Jolson performance sounds different than the audio of his last performance from Itazuke Air Force Base in Japan. It is mentioned that the performance on this disc is from Korea
Disc is in Excellent condition with Excellent Sound, Beautiful Disc. Some of the underlying audio is in Very Good to Excellent sound from the source
