This is a marvelous sounding copy of a spiritual jazz essential. Alice and PHAROAH!
Alice Coltrane’s Ptah, The El Daoud is a transcendent jazz masterpiece, blending modal and spiritual jazz with deeply meditative elements. Released in 1970, the album features Alice on piano and harp, Pharoah Sanders and Joe Henderson on saxophones (one panned left, the other right for a unique stereo effect), Ron Carter on bass, and her husband John Coltrane’s drummer, Rashied Ali.
Fun Fact:
The album was recorded in Alice’s home studio and is named after Ptah, an ancient Egyptian deity, blending her love of spirituality with jazz. The stereo panning of Sanders and Henderson creates an immersive listening experience for vinyl enthusiasts, making each side of the mix feel like a distinct conversation
