ALICE COOPER – LOVE IT TO DEATH 1ST PRESSING - PROMOTION COPY
This is a US FIRST PRESSING of this important Alice LP on Frank Zappa's STRAIGHT label. It is a PROMOTION COPY with a BLACK AND WHITE LABEL and the words Promotion Not For Sale printed on it.
This is the famous 'penis cover' version, with Alice holding his thumb so that some doofus in the record company thought his penis was showing. It is only on the earliest versions of the album in this format. Later versions tried to make the photo less obvious, and then changed the photo.
Later pressings of the record changed the label to Warners. It is hard to find this LP with the Straight label and even harder with a black and white promotion version.
The matrix numbers are 39778 - A 1A / 39778 - B 1B
I got this LP from the Warner press office and have looked after it carefully ever since. I always bought the best hi-fi equipment with the most expensive cartridges available. The record has only been played once a day so the vinyl grooves could regain their proper shape. The album has only been handled on the edges and was cleaned with a DiscPreener before each play. Both vinyl and cover are in flawless condition. It looks brand new.
The vinyl is in EXCELLENT condition with no scratches or marks of any kind. It looks like it just came off the press.
The cover is in EXCELLENT condition with no marks, tears or bends. There is some rubbing of the black from sitting between other albums - see the photo.
This is a valuable addition to any Alice Cooper collection. As a guide to what this LP is worth, in 2009 a copy in similar condition sold on eBay for £80 / $130.
