ALICE COOPER – Pretties For You ORIG Straight LP / STS 1051 (UK, Stereo, 1969)

Happy to present the very first AC long player in its immensely rare UK 1st press on the lovely pink/purple Straight label.  More experimental than his later material and still with a distinctly psychedelic edge, I can bring you this copy in a brilliant, seldom played excellent condition.  Sleeve has some issues but the record is a super copy.

The non-laminated gatefold sleeve was made by the E.J Day Group in the UK.  It’s in VG (Very Good) condition and would grade higher were it not for a small sticker tear to the front top left corner and some puncture holes to the spine. The inside of the gate shows some moderate edge rubbing too. Were it not for these it would be approaching a full EX – no splits, writing, hardly any creasing.

The classic 1960s UK Straight labels are a real bonus here – superb vivid colours, no fading, grime, writing or residue.  One or two spindle traces to ONE side only.  Terrific labels!

The solid medium to heavy weight vinyl is a great example for this rare UK Straight title.  Alice obviously wanted this LP to be played to death at parties but on this occasion, he’d be disappointed.  That’s because here we have a seldom used disc which maintains close to maximum shine and if it weren’t for a few superficial and light markings would come in as very near to mint.  There’s one hairline and some ultra fine scuffs to Side 1 while I struggled to pick up ANY blemishes on Side 2 (maybe some slight sleeve removal traces if you look super hard).  Really this is a great condition disc which I will grade as a true EX (Excellent) but bar some slight isolated markings looks close to new.  IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and if you’re looking for great audio then it should fully satisfy – NO snap, crackle, pops, clicks, ticks or hiss were noted.  NO distortion or loss of clarity/lack of definition either.  The merest hint of dust static possibly between tracks/in very quiet areas but nothing really.  The play grade at least matches, if not exceeds the visual one.

Easier to find as a US 1st but this UK original really is an elusive title.  This copy shows really lovely vinyl – and might be very hard to better.

No reserve.

PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME TO UNDERSTAND MY GRADES!

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades.  After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN?  What is NM+? Or EX---?   These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay.  I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade.  Excellent, by dictionary definition means ‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
