Description
On offer is a 1971 LP by AMANCIO D’SILVA called REFLECTIONS and subtitled THE ROMANTIC GUITAR OF AMANCIO D’SILVA. It’s on EMI COLUMBIA, catalogue number SCX 6465.
Goa-born, Bombay-educated guitarist D’Silva came to the UK in 1967, and his east-west style made on impact on a Jazz Britannia much preoccupied with Indo-jazz fusion. Imagine Charlie Christian and Gabor Szabo on the banks of the Ganges jamming with a passing boatload of British jazzmen. Actually, that’s a more accurate description of predecessor Integration. Reflections, as the subtitle suggests, is an attempt by the company to push D’Silva in a more commercial direction, and is notable for Stan Tracey’s contributions as composer and arranger.
This vinyl is EXCELLENT minus - it shows little sign of having been played, but has obviously stood on the shelf for a while. The grooves are still shiny, with no scratches or sticking, but dusty. The labels are clean, with no writing, and minor spindle marks. The laminate flipback sleeve is very good plus, with a bit of ringwear, minor wear and two small round stickers (easily removable with lighter fluid) which say ‘EMI 427’ and ‘£2.05’. A phantom ticker has struck on the back cover, with small tidy ticks beside ‘Memories of You’, ‘Yours’, and ticks on either side of ‘Aubergine’ and ‘Love is Blue’, and, at top left, just below the laminate fold, a small ‘2-3-‘ in biro (see photo). It comes in the original paper inner sleeve, advertising other EMI releases of the day. This inner sleeve has two small round stickers attached which say ‘EMI 427’ and ’T/MU’.
