Record condition: NM-, A almost prefect record. there is a scratch on the leading edge of side 2 that probably only effects the intro of song one. One scuff on side 1. al else looks flawless

Cover condition: MINT, total flawless, i see no issues. i rarely grade this high but in this case it is what it is MINT!

Amebix are considered one of the first - if not, the first - crust punk band and innovated the "gritty" sound of crust punk. The band, led by vocalist / bassist The Baron and guitarist Stig, formed at the tail end of 1978 originally dubbed The Band With No Name. One of these formative tracks, 'University Challenged', turned up on the renowned compilation album 'Bullshit Detector 1'.

A series of line up fluxes eventually saw keyboard player Norman being enrolled in 1981 as the group relocated to Bristol. Another inductee would be drummer Virus from local act Disorder and in this incarnation Amebix signed to Spiderleg Records issuing three EPs. 

More line up changes, saw Amebix making do as a trio for a tour of Italy before the quickfire changes in the keyboard department settled when George came in during November of 1984 for dates in Holland, replacing Jenghiz on Synth/Keyboards. 

Spider Arachno Blaster replaced Virus as drummer as Amebix signed to Alternative Tentacles for the 1985 album 'Arise'. Sophomore effort 'Monolith' arrived on the Wolverhampton Heavy Metal label but the band folded in late 1987. Spider, George and Stig stuck together to forge Zygote. In later years Spider would be found in Muckspreader. According to some reports The Baron went on to live on the Isle of Skye manufacturing swords(!).

All of Amebix's artwork was originally done by the band, mainly Rob (The Baron), however the most notable Amebix icon (the face and usually reads "No Gods, No Masters") was originally created by Austin Osman Spare and it was titled "Self-Love."

There exists a tribute to Amebix called "Amebix Japan" (LP by Agipunk CD by MCR Company), where six Japanese bands play Amebix songs.

In April 2008 The Baron and Stig reformed Amebix with drummer Roy Mayorga and released a DVD overlooking the band's history and the impact left behind by their legacy. They organized a brief series of special shows that featured a screening of the documentary followed by a band performance.

Amebix remains today a cult favorite, after a career of releasing mostly singles and EPs with a few memorable full lengths to boast as well. Practicing what they preached, Amebix lived like squatters, selling all but their instruments to survive and living in condemned buildings. Thankfully for us, we can still hear the band but not smell them.

An important inspiration on much more successful bands like Neurosis and Sepultura, Amebix's memorable Arise! album is still a work of art. The listener can be dared not to want to nod their head to songs like "Slave" and "Fear of God" or simmer in dirges like "Drink and Be Merry". Labelled more closely as a crust punk band than a metal band, the metal sound is definitely there and the heaviness was ahead of it's time.

The less-than-polished performance and production give the album a very authentic sound, and this album is more than highly reccomended to fans of the early development of metal. The DIY ethos is all the more evident on such an album, which sounds somewhat like Venom's Welcome to Hell, albeit with a more developed style. This album is still exciting over 20 years later, and everyone is invited to slum with the kings of hard living.

Well, after 30 years of collecting Metal, Punk & Hardcore vinyl I never thought this day would come. After switching to CD in the 1990s and then to MP3 in the 2000s, I can't justify keeping my collection any longer so I offer it to you. I started collecting back in 1982 in the San Francisco Bay area where most of my records were purchased new. I moved to Florida in 1986 and still collected up unto the late 1990s.

I have always treated my records with the most care. None of my original records are less then very good condition and most are in near mint condition. I did collect many used records over the years and also got many from friends that did not treat them so well. Those records will be described in detail as well. All records will be shipped with a protective plastic sleeve, vinyl removed from cover to protect spine during shipping and 12 inch records will be packaged in a LP designed cardboard mailer. 7 inch records will be packaged in comparable cardboard packaging. Only the best for my old records!

My grading:

MINT (M): New in original un-opened packaging, perfect, never played and like new in every way. I probably won't have many of these since all were played at least once & covers moved around for decades.

NEAR MINT (NM): Opened and played very few times, only very minor visual imperfections. Super clean cover.

EXCELLENT (EX): Played lightly and well cared for, a few light scuffs. Cover may have a few creases or imperfections. Still a very clean record and cover.

VERY GOOD (VG): Has scuffs or light scratches and noticeable signs of heavier wear and handling. Cover may have more visible wear, small rips or small seam splits.

GOOD (G): Has many scuffs and scratches, signs of heavy wear and handling. Cover shows obvious marks, creases, rips, tape, seam splits or wear, labels ripped or written on. Basically not cared for. (these records were the ones I purchased used or received from friends).

+/-: If I have a hard time putting either record or cover into a solid grade.
