Description
These are single sided 12” records, very heavy HMV shellac discs. Most comic/music hall artists would never have been allowed into the realm of the longer and more expensive 12” format: Lauder was an exception.
The discs included here are as follows:
* 02132 - The Wedding of Sandy McNab
* 02146 - Tobermory
* 02165 - The Lass o’ Killiecrankie
* 02186 - Bonnie Leezie Lindsay
* 02227 - The Saftest o’ the Family
* 02282 - Breakfast in Bed
* 02300 - The Message boy
* 02390 - It’s nice when you love a wee lassie
* 02435 - She’s the Lass for me
* 02478 - Ta-ta my bonnie Maggie darling
* 02572 - Jean
Although nominally “78s”, the actual speed at which these records were cut ranges between 77 and 81 rpm. Small labels have been affixed to the runout area to show this. A quick look at Brian Rust’s acclaimed work on records of this era shows that 02132 was recorded in 1908 whilst 02572 dates from 1915, so they are truly “antique”. Condition is largely pretty good. There are examples where a needle has run over the label, as can be seen from the photos, and I’ve also shown detail of one with a light radial scratch near the beginning.
The blank side shows the "Recording Angel", trademark of the Gramophone Company in its earliest days before the His Master's Voice painting was adopted and still in use in various forms long after that.
***Please note: the shipping price is from an economy carrier (DPD) and is for much of mainland U.K. I regret to say that it will cost substantially more to send the box to the Highlands & Islands or Northern Ireland. Please ask for a quote before bidding, if in doubt.
