Niemand, der an der Aufnahmesitzung teilnahm, bei der Ricci diese ungewöhnlichen Einspielungen machte, wird den Anblick vergessen, der ihn beim Betreten des Studios erwartete: der lange Tisch, flankiert von zwei bewaffneten Pinkerton-Detektiven, auf dem nicht weniger als fünfzehn der weltweit wertvollsten Geigen lagen ... Ricci nahm eine Geige nach der nächsten, stellte seine Füße fest auf die gelben Kreidemarkierungen, die den vorgeschriebenen Abstand zu den Mikrofonen markierten, und spielte auf jedem Instrument ein Stück, das so gewählt wurde, dass es die jeweilige Geige optimal zur Geltung brachte. Es war eine faszinierende Parade von Stücken, Kompositionen für die Geige par excellence, und Riccis maskuliner, unermüdlicher Ansatz entsprach meisten von ihnen sehr gut. (High Fidelity)


Nobody who attended the session at which Ricci made this unusual recording is likely to forget the sight which greeted one on entering the studio: the long table, flanked by two pistol-packing Pinkerton detectives, bearing no fewer than fifteen of the world's highest pedigreed violins ... Ricci took up the violins one by one, planted his feet firmly on the yellow chalk marks sketched at the prescribed distance from the microphones, and played on each instrument a selection chosen to show it to best advantage. It was a fascinating parade of pieces that are fiddle music par excellence, and Ricci's masculine, unmincing approach suited most of them very well indeed. (High Fidelity)

Elman still plays with charm and elegance ... In this batch of pieces, where the encore wags the concert, so to speak, Elman and Seiger combine war-horses and novelties in captivating manner. I was charmed by the exotic "From San Domingo", by Arthur Benjamin, with its echoes of guitars and popular songs. Charles Miller’s "Cubanaise" ... (its) vivacious rhythms and sonorous middle section are most appealing. Perhaps the item that most listeners will fall for is Elman’s arrangement of the so-called "Canto Amoroso" by Sammartini, an encore which Elman has made peculiarly his own. - Gramophone
