Description
Description:
An exceptionally scarce Baton Records 45 from Ann Cole with The Suburbans and Orchestra, pairing Each Day with In The Chapel. Baton, a short-lived New York label, is legendary among collectors for its deep R&B catalog and low pressing numbers. Ann Cole herself holds an important place in music history—her gospel-soaked vocals influenced peers in both R&B and early soul, making her records prized additions to any serious collection.
This example surfaced from the private collection of a Detroit disc jockey who spun these sides when they were brand new. Subtle but authentic signs of provenance remain: taped label edges to prevent cue burn and a faintly etched year mark—hallmarks of a working DJ copy from the 1950s/60s. Far from detracting, these details enhance its museum-quality story, as this disc quite literally carried the sound of R&B and gospel into teenage living rooms, car radios, and dancehalls at the moment of its cultural impact.
Condition: Very Good (VG). Light surface wear consistent with age and professional use, labels intact with minor blemishes, plays strong with light background noise. A well-preserved survivor of a hard-to-find title.
