Description

A true bop classic in stunning condition! Original pressing of "A Man And His Horns"(HLP 0101) on Herald records. Cover is NM with incredible, new looking white back. "Disk Jockey" stamped on back & small autograph from 6/30/01 on lower right corner of back. VINYL IS NM. Pink Herald Deep Groove label has "Disk Jockey" stamped on 1 side. RVG (rudy van gelder) is stamped in the dead wax. This is a very unique lp from 1961, a multitrack recording that was way ahead of it's time. As the liner notes put it: "A MAN AND HIS HORNS is the artistry of Anthony Ortega as a master of his alto, and in full command of five accompanying instruments; flute, tenor & baritone sax, clarinet, and bass clarinet. With the use of a multitrack recording technique, Anthony performs on all the instruments, blending tonal qualities and giving us as only one man can, his own interpretation of the musical sketches written." This record is a magical potpourri; latin & swing tempos, gorgeous sensitivity, Afro-Cuban rhythms, & heavenly alto solos. Los Angeles native Ortega recorded this lp in New York City on his first visit there. PERSONNEL: Mr. Ortega on his horns, Hank Jones on piano, Addison Farmer on bass, & Ed Thigpen on drums. SIDE 1: "Happy Day", "Handful Of Stars", "Titoro", & "Memories Of Spring". SIDE 2: "They All Laughed", "We'll Be Together Again", "Birdwatcher", & "Strolling Through The Casbah".
