Anton Bruhin "Rotomotor" b/w Anton Bruhin and Stefan Wittwer "Neun Improvisierte Stuecke" LP issued by Sunrise Records (078-1962) in Switzerland, 1978. ****** Rec:ex Cov:m ****** Top rare and beautiful second LP by Anton Bruhin. All Bruhin record LPs are very hard to find today, specially in top MINT conditions (both record and cover) as the record offered here! This is the most experimental record by Bruhin with a long, hypnotic reading on Side A and improvised musik duo with Stefan Wittwer on Side B. "Rotomotor, ein motorisches idiotikon" recorded in Zurich and written between 1976 and 1977. "Rotomotor" is a poetic idiotikon of the swiss-german dialect (idiotikon = dictionary of dialect, idiom). Instead of the straight alphabetical order the words are here organised according to the similarity of their sound or rather their letters. Each word differs from the previous one by just one letter. Three possibilities result: one letter is added, one letter in cancelled, one letter is replaced by a different letter. The choice of the word which follows the previous one was intuitively made. "Rotomotor" draws a winding path if compared to the straight alphabetical order. This path may ocasionally cross itself: if possible each word appears only one time; in a few cases a word may appear two or even three times. For this reading Bruhin used a delay equipment which repeated the signal after more or less 0.6 seconds. Each new word is superimposed to the echo of the preceding word. On one hand this echo generates the rhythm of the performance, on the other it supports the acoustic metamorphosis of the words. "Neun Improvisierte Stuecke" was recorded in 1974 and mastered by Bruno Spoerri. This side includes "Three Small Pieces", "Ohne Titel", "Bels", "L'art informel", "Nebelhorn" and "Ohne Titel". The sound is very brut and improvised, kind of the most primitive records on ESP. Anton Bruhin is a painter and sonic-art artist. Rather by chance, he stated to occupy himself in the late sixties with the Jews harp and creative music (he has been experimenting with sound when he was still a teenager, recording free noise tapes with his younger brother and sisters in the countryside). His interest for Jews harp caused him to travel all around the world tracing out other players of the same instrument. Nowadays, he is in contact with the Jews harp Centre in Yakutsk (in northeastern Siberia) and he is on friendly terms with Jews harp players in Japan, Hungary and Austria. Anton Bruhin plays during concerts on his self-made electric Jews harp and employs different resonators like recently developed tubes filled with water.
