Whatever happened? This band was extremely talented, demonstrated by the fact members would continue to make good music in Heathen, Control and Metal Church. Some of the songs those bands use(d) were originally written in Anvil Chorus. This single was quite a big hit for a metal band back then, and I think it could be stated, with a sense of irony, that this terrific single prophesied the hair metal explosion of the mid-eighties.Blondes in Black is sort of your typical stadium-crowd rocking anthem, but with 'sexy' lyrics. The chorus keeps haunting my brain: "Tied for leather, cold iron chains; Blondes in black, drive me insane!" as it's accompanied by this staccato drumpart that sticks to you. Throwing in a couple of solos and the very-above-average guitarwork by the talented guitarists, and you got an instant crowd-pleaser, and a fun song that has a good rythm and melody. On the other side of the single they show what they're in my opinion better at: songs with emotion. Here the keyboards play a role, I think in a way comparable to Europe in terms of style and sound, but instead of dominantly in the Foreground, subtly in the background. In fact, a comparison to early 80s traditional metal bands that used keyboards and were still metal.
