ARTIST: Appletree Theatre (alias John and Terence Boylan)
ALBUM TITLE: Playback
LABEL: original 1967 pressing on Verve Forecast, catalog no. FTS 3042, STEREO, made in USA. The only Appletree Theatre LP ever released (never reissued on LP format).
CONDITION: front cover is close to NM (having slightly bumped both right upper and bottom corners; no wear ring; no shelf wear), back cover is NM overall (except for the left upper and bottom corners just a little touched), vinyl is close to NM side one (having one tiny superficial surface mark plus a few sleeve marks) and close to NM side two (having a few tiny superficial surface marks). Record was cleaned and tested, playing as close as possible to MINT. Overall cover and vinyl grade NM minus (or Exc. plus).
MUSIC: concept pysch based on an experimental "rock meets theatre" idea featuring blues-pop as main genres fused with elements of jazz, acid rock, fuzz garage and classical music. Occasional narration-dialogues, collages and special effects are present on some tracks. 16 tracks total as part of the Altogether Overture, 3 Acts plus Epilogue. Featuring the renown tracks "Hightower square" and "I wonder if Luise is home". Studio recordings. Written and directed by brothers John and Terence Boylan (on vocals, acoustic guitars and harmonica). Guest musicians as the Appletree Theatre Company include Larry Corryell, Eric Gale, Chuck Rainey, Rick Nelson and Bill Szymczyk. One of John Lennon's favorite albums. Unique psych music album from the history. A true rarity, hard-to-find in any condition.
