"The only Quebec movie condemned by a court"
But there's more: not only does its famous B-side feature hypnotic grooves led by a charge of brass, organ, piano, guitars and percussion, but the mystery surrounding the musicians involved has fueled much speculation. "On the cover, the funk songs were credited to Jacques Crevier who had composed some arrangements for the more pop songs on the A side," pieces performed by Celine Lomez, Mariette Levesque, Marc Hamilton. "But everyone knew that it was a front, that Crevier was not behind this funk. There was even a rumor that it was the American group Chicago instead."
It was while writing the biography of Donald Seward, keyboardist for César et les Romains and another obscure hero of the Quebec funk scene, that Desfossés discovered the secret. "Seward had told me that he had played with The Flaming Stars in the late 50s. By chance, I googled the band and came across the website of another member of the Flaming Stars, John Ranger, who claims to have composed the music for the film Après-ski with his band Illustration, 11 musicians from Quebec, Ontario and the United States."

Mais il y a plus: non seulement sa fameuse face B recèle des grooves hypnotiques menés par une charge de cuivres, d’orgue, de piano, de guitares et de percussions, mais le mystère entourant les musiciens impliqués a nourri bon nombre de spéculations. "Sur la pochette, les chansons funk étaient créditées à Jacques Crevier qui avait composé quelques arrangements pour les titres plus pop de la face A", des pièces interprétées par Céline Lomez, Mariette Lévesque, Marc Hamilton. "Mais tous savaient que c’était un prête-nom, que Crevier n’était pas derrière ce funk. Une rumeur voulait même que ce soit plutôt le groupe américain Chicago."
C’est en écrivant la biographie de Donald Seward, claviériste pour César et les Romains et autre héros obscur de la scène funk québécoise, que Desfossés découvre le pot aux roses. "Seward m’avait dit qu’il avait joué avec The Flaming Stars à la fin des années 50. À tout hasard, je google le groupe et je tombe sur le site d’un autre membre des Flaming Stars, John Ranger, qui y affirme avoir composé la musique du film Après-ski avec son groupe Illustration, 11 musiciens provenant du Québec, de l’Ontario et des États-Unis."
