ARETHA FRANKLIN Aretha Now ORIG UK PLUM MONO A1/B1 1968 Atlantic SOUL
Aretha Franklin, Aretha Now.
Scarce 1968 UK pressed Atlantic Records mono LP, 587 114.
Earliest A1/B1 matrix suffixes.
Dating from so late in the 1960s a mono issue of this LP is pretty scarce. Most were stereo issues, reinforced by the fact that this LP is housed in a stereo issue sleeve with the stereo issue number of 588 114 to the top right corner of the rear panel.
In general around a VG issue. The vinyl surfaces are still acceptably glossy but display a fair few light hairline scuffs and some gentle hairline scratches. No horrible digs or gouges.
Playback is around a solid VG. Across the entire LP the range does vary from EX to VG minus. The A side plays mostly VG plus. Some minor separator band and intro crackle, a very few soft ticks to final track, not obtrusive. The B side is nearer VG with a very few more soft ticks, again not overly obtrusive. There are no loud or continuous ticks or clicks and much of the LP plays an admirably quiet EX considering the marks. I noticed after play checking that some small specks of debris had been dislodged by the stylus so there is doubtless room for improvement after repeated playings and/or a deep clean. (Note that the surfaces are not obviously grubby or dirty).
Labels are clean and unmarked.
Front laminated sleeve is a top end VG plus. No damage of note to main panels although front losing some lustre and predominantly white rear panel showing a little darkening and storage rubbing. Edges are in good order with no splits and entry side is still acceptably crisp and not feathered. Some minor pinch line creases running in to front panel from spine area. A few imperfections and half moons to laminate on front panel, some a little longish.
