Hi! You're looking at a great overall condition Vinyl LP which is a RARE and hard to find FIRST PRESSING (West Coast black & blue label) with VAN GELDER stampers in the runout grooves and a classic 1970 issue album on the Blue Note Records label featuring classic 1961 recordings by ART BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS performing six uptempo compositions by WAYNE SHORTER--the musicians include the classic lineup of ART BLAKEY on drums, LEE MORGAN on piano, WAYNE SHORTER on tenor saxophone, BOBBY TIMMONS or WALTER DAVIS, JR. on piano, and JYMIE MERRITT on bass. Despite its somewhat later release date, this is one of the GREAT Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers Albums! The LP is a Blue Note Records album released in 1970, a 1st PRESSING on the Black and Blue label (indicating a West Coast Pressing), bears the serial number BST 84347 and the VAN GELDER mark in the runout grooves and was made in the United States in 1970.
This LP Set is in great overall condition and the vinyl is in VG+ condition and should play very well, with a few small scratches that may produce some light pops for short durations, and some light hairline marks, moderate scuffs and light scuffs (this is a loud & busy recording with no ballads, so the occasional pops should not be distracting); the cover is also in VG+ condition and has a split on the upper 3/4 of the spine end, a 3 inch split on the upper left edge, small 1/2 inch splits on the opening edges, two very small sticker residue spots on the upper left corner of the front cover, a few light scuffs on the upper right of the back cover, light dings on the tips, some ringwear and light shelfwear but no other significant flaws--it's NOT a cutout! The original plain white inner sleeve is also included and in great shape, with a small split on the lower edge, a couple of very small tears on the center hole and a two light creases on the corners.
Vinyl Grading Standards (unless otherwise indicated, LPs are visually graded)
Mint (or M) – Sealed and effectively perfect with no signs of wear or ever having been played.
Near Mint -- A record with only the slightest evidence of ever having been handled.
Very Good Plus Plus (VG++) A very clean record that has no marks aside from slight scuffs and abrasions caused by removal from a paper inner sleeve or perhaps a few marks on the label caused by a turntable spindle.
Very Good Plus (VG+) A record that has had a number of plays and may have some superficial scuffs, possibly mild to moderate spindle marks and / or possibly hairline scratches on the vinyl, which may produce some intermittent pops and possibly very light background noise.
Very Good (VG) A record that has generally been well cared for, but has seen a fair amount of play, with some scuffing. hairline scratches, spindle marks and / or light scratches. Should play through well, with the possibility of more pops and more background noise.
Very Good Minus (VG-) A record with significant scuffs, scratches, and spindle marks that should play through with moderate pops and surface noise, possibly of some duration.
Good (G) A record with will play through, but with significant pops, substantial background noise, and possibly intermittent skipping.
Poor (P) A record with MAJOR issues that will interfere with play, and will possibly be unplayable in part due to damage (I'll only offer an LP in this condition if it's an extreme rarity and / or for cover art display purposes).
