This is the rare original 1959 first pressing of Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers at the Jazz Corner of the World Vol. 1, on Blue Note LP 4015 / BLP-4015. Rudy Van Gelder's initials in the runoffs, as well as the ear mark. Features an absolutely incredible Lee Morgan (one of his best recordings), who is really channeling Clifford Brown, and a blistering Hank Mobley also at his best. Wow! This record really cooks all the way through. No letup! Incredible playing... This copy plays really well, but has some marks and scuffs. There are a lot of light scratches, but these wonderful early pressings can really take a beating. It still plays quite beautifully, with only light crackle in some quieter moments... and there are very few quiet moments. The music is so cooking and rollicking that it is almost always louder than any background crackle. No groove distortion, so it plays really clearly. Not absolutely perfect but a keeper copy for sure. The cover is also pretty nice, with only minor issues. There is a seam split in the center of the bottom edge (see photo) and some light corner wear, mainly at the bottom corners. Also some light water staining on the back along the spine. See photos. Otherwise it is pretty well intact and lovely, with no further seam splits or edgewear, and a fully intact and readable spine. This is not a top copy but a great looking and sounding one nonetheless. Like I say, it's a keeper copy.
