Released in 1972 by Contemporary Records, Art Pepper’s …The Way It Was! is a compilation of phenomenal tracks recorded by alto saxophone giant at four separate dates spanning 1956-1960. Anchored by a session with tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh, everything here is stellar. A natural ease, delightful flow, and seamless chemistry define performances ranging from the summery “All the Things You Are” to the ballad “What’s New.”
Mastered directly from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s Ultra Analog 180-gram LP brings the all-star affair to another level. GRADING. Grading is visual only unless otherwise stated. I go by Goldmine standards and try to be conservative. I will play grade on certain items only - it is just impossible for me to play grade everything I put on EBAY. MINT means factory sealed, never opened or played. NM is opened but in visually brand new, out-of-the-packaging clean condition. NM- is not NM! Its a grade above VG++ and below Near Mint - it does not imply perfect. In my terminology Scratches are feeler type and Scuffs are just cosmetic and usually inaudible.
