Description
Radio Show Transcription Disc produced by WOR Reference Recording. One 7 minute radio program and one 15 minute radio program on this 16 inch, black lacquer acetate coated aluminum, 33 1/3 rpm disc. This disc was recorded for reference purposes only and not available to the general public, very rare!
The disc is in excellent condition. Please see the below description of the sound
“Arthur Mann Mutual War Observer” radio program of October 17, 1939 featuring “first hand observations from the western front by Mutual’s war correspondent Arthur Mann. Arthur Mann reports on the conditions of western front in France where he has been assigned to the British and French forces. It is mentioned that this is the first in a series of programs featuring Mr. Mann. It is mentioned that this report was flown to London for transmissions to New York Studios. Program is approximately 7 minutes and ends with the end of the news report, then the announcer introducing a classical song which plays for a moment, presumably complete. Program was originally broadcast over the Mutual Broadcasting System. Sound on this side of the disc is excellent
Side two contains a complete episode of "Myrt And Marge", possibly from the same date as above . Unfortunately, someone purposely scratched this side of the disc (which is visible in the photos), after it was recorded, most likely so it couldn't be rebroadcast. Due to the scratches there are many clicks, which is unfortunate as the underlying sound is excellent, most likely a line-check from the network. Someone proficient in removing clicks from radio programs would have one of the better sounding specimens of this radio series.. In this episode, Myrt loans Brellerton White? Also known as “Brilly” $1,000 so he can go out to Hollywood to sell the motion picture rights to their production – to Marge’s disappointment. The program is sponsored by Concentrated Super Suds and Halo Shampoo. Announcer is Del Sharbutt. Broadcast on CBS. 15 minutes complete
I could not find any reference to any existing copies of either of these radio programs in any online log or database
Due to their size, 16 inch discs will not play on most standard turntables. I will include a CD transfer of the entire disc for the buyer only
