Description
ASD 494 white/gold – KODALY: HARRY JANOS, etc. – KEMPE / VIENNA Philharmonic Orch.
1962 HMV stereo recording on white/gold label, catalogue number ASD 494. Rudolf Kempe conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in a mixed programme – Kodaly: Harry Janos Suite; Tchaikovsky: Theme & Variations from Suite No.3; Gotovac: Kolo from “Ero, Der Schelm”.
Disc is clean and shiny with some VERY faint/tiny marks. We have listened very critically. Side1 has a succession of about 12 light ticks during the first minute; the rest of the side has occasional very light ticks and 1 noticeable tick. Side 2 has 2 loud ticks and occasional very faint ticks, plus 8 consecutive noticeable ticks on Track 2. This description sounds very harsh; the reality is that the largely minor faults are very brief and soon forgotten. Sleeve is badly scuffed at corners; tiny area of front surface is missing (see photo). Rear is scuffed and discoloured.
