Description
ASPEN MAGAZINE - 1st and only edition of this ASPEN No. 7 - BRITISH BOX
Spring-Summer 1970
Aspen Magazine was published in 1965, through 1971, by Roaring Fork Press, Inc., 333 Sixth Avenue, NYC, NY 10014, USA. It was to have been issued quarterly, but it soon became clear that this was overly optimistic. Some issues, such as the White Box, were to be sent in two sections and remained incomplete and never rectified for many subscribers. Others never arrived at all. Phyllis Johnson was editor and publisher. This issue was compiled and edited by Mario Amaya and designed by John Kosh. The cover was designed by Richard Smith.
The exterior box is complete and never unfolded, but the condition of the flimsy cardboard is poor with two corners torn and flattened and a bit grimy. It has cat clawmarks on one edge; however, the color is still good, except for the white. Dimensions are 10" x 10" x 1-1/8" thick.
Once opened, the contents are amazing. All items are present and appear never to have been opened, but for the Lennon Diary.
The contents are:
Essay and Short Story:
J.G. Ballard...........................................................Crash!
Christopher Finch................................................Communicators
Michael Instone....................................................London Subcultures
David Robinson....................................................New British Cinema
Edward Lucie-Smith............................................British Poetry Now
Records (both 33 rpm discs are still in original glassine envelopes and are guaranteed never to have been removed or played):
Yoko Ono..............................................................Song for John, No Bed for Beatle John
John Lennon........................................................Radio Play
Christopher Logue..............................................New Numbers
John Tavener......................................................Three Surrealist Songs
Objects (these appear untouched, but for the diary):
Peter Blake...........................................................Two Souvenirs (lower left corner has slight curl and first page has left a slight imprint on the second)
Ian Hamilton Finley..............................................Wave/rock, Concrete Poem
John Furnival........................................................Europa & Her Bull, Typographical Triptych
David Hockney......................................................Notes on Rumpelstilskin
John Lennon.........................................................London Diary 1969 (back leaf has been folded vertically and that leaf is slightly torn just at the top and
bottom of the spine
Eduardo Paolozzi..................................................The Gay Atomic Colouring Book
Ossie Clark............................................................British Knickers (lower left corner has slight creasing)

Aspen order form
But for the box and the Lennon Diary, the condition appears to be nearly flawless.
THIS FOLIO WOULD BE A TRUE FIND FOR ANY BEATLES COLLECTOR, OR HOCKNEY DEVOTEE.
Other issues I have are No. 3 (FAB), 5+6, 9 and 10, which I'll list over the next several weeks. Those with 33 rpm. recordings are also utterly unplayed.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact me.
Please note the above truthfully-stated condition problems. If these are strongly objectionable to you, please don't participate in the bidding. Thank you.
