LP-Title: Amina Claudine Myers Salutes Bessie Smith
Original stereo US-pressing from 1980 on the tiny UK-label LEO RECORDS, LR 103. Recorded & mixed at Big Apple Studio, New York, 19 & 22 June, 1980. A true audiophile masterpiece with incredible sonics and soundstage. Beautiful vocals and unique tracks. Hard to find and highly recommended !
Line-up: Amina Claudine Myers/voice, piano & organ - Cecil McBee/bass - Jimmy Lovelace/drums & bells
Tracks: side 1: Wasted Life Blues - Dirty NoGooder's Blues - Jailhouse Blues - It Makes My Love Come Down
side 2: The Blues (Straight To You) - African Blues
Condition: the album has many quiet parts ( e.g. bass-solo & piano intros ) and it’s hard to find a copy playing in mint- all of the time. I have listened very carefully to the whole album from the beginning to the end to give you a complete and honest description: it plays in mint- nearly all of the time; there are less than 5 real soft & low tics in the background behind the music on the whole LP, each only a split-second short. I think a grading as mint- to mint-- is justified.
The sensitive heavy cardboard-cover shows much rub and a small split on the bottom-seam, the upper seam has a little rub and a few mmm open next to the opening, the spine has a split on top of ca. 1 inch and the lettering shows little rub but can still be read well; on the front there's some rub and creasing, specially in the upper left corner; the back is okay with minor discolourations, it has faint residues of a stamp of the pre-owner in the upper right corner; overall vg- for the cover.
Grading & Cleaning:
-
the record has been cleaned on my professional HANNL record cleaning machine
-
after that I playgraded it (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN:TU-3 Super Fine Line ( please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment )
-
I also visually graded the record under a strong light
-
only an unplayed record is mint, the highest grading for a used record is mint- ! My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg.
-
cleaned records are stored in a new deluxe innersleeve and they are placed in a new PVC protection-sleeve !
