Description

This is the original first pressing of Alan Silva and the Celestial Communication Orchestra on the BYG Actuel label (Actuel 42-43-44). This was recorded live December 29, 1970. The amazing line-up is a sort of who's who of the amazing community of creative musicians who were playing in France at the time: Alan Silva, Bernard Vitet, Lester Bowie, Alan Shorter, Joseph Jarman, Steve Lacy, Ronnie Beer, Roscoe Mitchell, Robin Kenyatta, Michel Portal, Dieter Gewissler, Jouk Minor, Kent Carter, Irene Aebi, Dave Burrell, Joachim Kuhn, Don Moye, Jerome Cooper, and Oliver Johnson. This album is one of the key relics of an era that was a kind of renaissance of the avant garde. It was re-released years back (and I heard numerous rumors that that reissue was against Silva's wishes) but it is always nice to have the first pressing on the label that originally produced the album.

Alan Silva himself was never really contained by the "free jazz" label and over a long career has shown himself to be one of the most consistently inventive and ambitious composers, improvisers and performers. This is one of the most audacious projects he ever undertook. The long, 3-foot gatefold album includes an elaborate diagram of which musicians came in at which moments of this performance.

The vinyl is in NM-. I purchased this album many years ago and listened to a tape of it rather than play such a rare album over and over. As a result, the vinyl has very little wear. Aside from a small, very light scratch on side 2 that is not audible, there are no scratches or scuffs on any of the records. The jacket shows a little bit of wear here and there. The only place where this is plainly noticeable is at the top of the spine where the paper got a small rip. Overall, the jacket is in excellent condition. There is no visible ring wear or edge wear, and no seam splitting either.

We have other rare vinyl currently listed on eBay (with no reserves!) and will work out shipping discounts with winners of multiple items. Please view our other items. Thanks.
