Alice Cooper Pretties for You

Warner Bros Records WS 1840 – Straight STS 1051
matrix: WS-1840 39632 T STS-1051 A/B

‘Pretties For You,’ was the debut studio album by Alice Cooper (at the time Alice Cooper referred to the band not its lead singer, Vincent Furnier) released in June 1969.  Triva: The artwork for this album is a painting by Edward Beardsley. It was originally hanging on the wall of the living room in Frank Zappa's house.

Summary: 1970 US repress, original uncensored cover and original “Zapped” inner sleeve (so often missing). Gatefold board sleeve. Clean WB olive labels with WB shields/black Straight/WB logos. Vinyl retains a sheen, plays.

Sleeve: Original uncensored front cover, no sticker that appeared on later issues.
US gatefold board sleeve, no major issues condition given age. Proud spine, minimum edge rub, age related signs of handling, no writing or sticker residue. Top/bottom edge split (80cm) – see photos. Straight logo and catalogue numbers appear on gatefold cover. No mention of Warner Bros, graded VG/VG+ depending on how you grade the split.

Label: Olive green labels, green WB shields with black Straight/WB logos printed on top offset to the right, minimal signs of use, nice condition, graded EX-.

Inner sleeve: Original inner sleeve that features the Zapped mail order offer – so often missing.

Vinyl: Retains a nice sheen, closer inspection (under light) shows light wispy lines only, primarily made by sleeve removal – nothing that interferes with playback.

Audio: Plays through with no major problems: Clear audio S1 plays EX, S2 has some dust crackle between tracks (played on a Project carbon - blue 2M Ortofon).

I have tried to be honest and transparent in my description - the photographs form part of the description. Questions are welcome, don't hesitate to ask. I have good feedback (and positive comments) as both a buyer and seller, so you can buy with confidence. I have been a collector for 48+ years buying and selling records over the years to feed my changing music habits. The few records I sell are either the results of upgrades, duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again. If anything is not as expected, please contact me straight away and I will do everything to resolve any problems without argument.

I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - as an additional guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. ….

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing…..

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. …

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
