ALLEN BROTHERS
78 rpm, old time country string band
Columbia 15175-D, 78rpm, “Bow Wow Blues” b/w “Salty Dog Blues.” Condition; Ex-. White country blues from the early masters, AUSTIN and LEE ALLEN. This is a well preserved copy of their earliest waxed 78 rpm record -- recorded in Atlanta, GA on Thursday, April 7th, 1927. Performing with banjo and kazoo, the Allen Bros. bring to mind the work of Papa Charlie Jackson, Cannon's Jug Stompers and the medicine show songsters.
CONDITION:
The record is visually graded as Ex-. The music plays very well, with minor scuffs and scratches, and with little of the usual hiss, crackle, and pop – nothing that greatly impairs play. The music plays well above the background noise. The labels are very nice. The record plays through well. (Standard Docks/JJJ grading used). Aural grade will, of course, vary depending upon the equipment it is played on. There’s a whole lot of gloss left on this one.
Please be advised that the label scan -- while showing an approximately accurate picture, tends to show a somewhat degraded image of printed words, occasionally shifts colors and picks up glare, and usually gives an image which is at least a half grade or more below the actual quality. Still, the scan will give an over-all sense of the label’s condition. HERE, THE ACTUAL LABEL HAS GREAT CONTRAST, SHOWS LESS WEAR AND IS SHARPER THAN THE SCAN WOULD INDICATE.
