Artist & Album Description:
The Allman Brothers Band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (founder and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards), as well as Dickey Betts (lead guitar), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny Johanson (drums). The band incorporated elements of blues, jazz, and country music, and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals.
“Idlewild South” was their second album which had limited commercial success at the time; but attracted word of mouth interest from other artists such as Eric Clapton who featured Duane on his 1970 “Layla” album. Sadly, Duane died in a motorcycle accident in 1971, so this album is a rare example of his guitar talent from a short recording career.
